The Douglas County Conservation District rents two seed drills for a variety of conditions. Both tools are intended as no-till drilling or overseeding applications that minimize soil disturbance. Why minimize soil disturbance? We promote no-till drills because they improve soil health by retaining moisture, and reduce costs by eliminating tillage, which saves on fuel and labor. No-till drills are essential for planting crops like grasses and cover crops into existing vegetation or heavy residue without soil disturbance, which keeps the soil intact. Disturbing the soil wakes up the seed bank which is comprised of weed, grass, and forbs seeds lying dormant.
This equipment is available to land owners and land managers in Douglas County and Western Elbert County, Colorado.

No-Till Seed Drill Rental
Truax Flex II

- 8 feet wide, 3,200lbs
- 8 disks
- 20mph tow speed, 5mph or less sowing speed
- Three seed boxes
- Manual or tractor hydraulics for lifting and lowering

- Requires a 3/4 ton pick up truck to tow via pin hitch (pin and hitch is provided) and a 40hp tractor to sow seed

Cost:
The cost of rental is $200.00 base fee. This includes the first five acres drilled.
If one drills over 5 acres, there’s a per-acre fee of $10 per acre from 6 to 20 acres, in addition to the base fee. If one then drills over 20 acres, there’s a per-acre fee of $5 per acre additional. There is an acre meter on the drill.
For example, if one drills 26 acres the fee breakdown is
– $200 (which includes the first 5 acres),
– 15 x $10 = $150,
-then 6 x $5 = $30
for a total drill cost of $380.
A $250.00 refundable deposit will be held until the drill is returned in the condition it was rented in.
Requirements:
Colorado Drivers License, current auto insurance, and a minimum of a 3/4 ton pickup truck (for towing) and at least a 40 HP tractor (for seeding). Property must be within Douglas County or western Elbert County, Colorado. Dry soil conditions are a must as wet soil inhibits the seed from falling properly. The drill is towed via a pin hitch, a blank hitch sleeve and pin is provided.

Seed Drill Rental
