The Douglas County Conservation District rents out our Truax No-Till Seed Drill to landowners in Douglas County and Elbert County.
Truax drills are designed to plant grasses and legumes on a variety of site conditions.
We also sell native grass mixes and a good Dryland Pasture Mix available online at our Shop page.
Features:
- Double disc furrow openers and depth bands optimize seed placement and seed-to-soil contact.
- Multiple seed boxes give you the flexibility to seed native fluffy seeds, cool season species, small grains, legumes, and wildflowers.
- Planting can be accomplished as no-till and inter-seeding in most conditions, from hard pastures and roadsides to crop residue and cover crops.
Cost:
The cost of rental is $150.00 base fee. This includes the first five acres drilled.
If one drills over 5 acres, there’s a per-acre free of $10 per acre up to 15 acres, in addition to the base fee. If one then drills over 15 acres, there’s a per-acre fee of $5 per acre additional. There is an acre meter on the drill.
A $250.00 refundable deposit will be held until the drill is returned in the condition it was rented in.
Requirements:
Colorado Drivers License, current auto insurance, and a minimum of a 3/4 ton pickup truck (for towing) and at least a 40 HP tractor (for seeding). Property must be within Douglas County or eastern Elbert County, Colorado. Dry soil conditions are a must as wet soil inhibits the seed from falling properly. The drill is towed via a pin hitch, be sure your ball comes off BEFORE you arrive for pick up.
